Canned Sardines for Babies

Canned sardines may be introduced to children around 7 months of age, with crushed bones. Another benefit of including sardines in your baby food recipes is that they are very low in mercury. Always check the label and avoid those that contain ‘extras’ like preservatives or flavorings . However, it is advisable to check with your doctor before giving any new foods to your child. They are rich in omega 3 fatty acids, which not only help with the development of your child’s brain, but also a great immunity booster. Sardines are also very high in calcium (particularly when packed with their bones) and contain B vitamins, iron, phosphorus, manganese, copper and zinc."

"In my opinion, the bones in the sardines can be dangerous to the child although it's soft and edible and canned sardines are mostly sold in tomato based sauce which can be high in sodium. I prefer to feed my children food that are more natural in taste, low in seasoning. You can consider cheese, broccoli and children yoghurt which also has calcium in them."
