Breastfeeding is the best for babies and a healthy diet / maternal nutrition is important when breastfeeding. A decision not to breastfeed can be difficult to reverse. Infant formula is suitable from birth when babies are not breastfed. It is recommended that all formula milks be used on the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian, pharmacist, or other professional responsible for maternal and child care and the financial implications should be considered. All preparation and feeding instructions should be followed carefully as inappropriate preparation could lead to health hazards.

"Different stages of milk are formulated for different age groups and tailored according to that Recommended Dietary Allowances of that age group. The combination of nutrient levels is different to cater to the needs of children at different stages of growth. It is fine for some mums to take Step 3 up to 4-5 years old if they prefer. Mums can take their time to move on to next stage of milk i.e. there is no hurry to change formulation exactly when the child turns 3 as some children may still be sensitive to formulation change. Also growing-up milk caters to children who are already able to obtain important nutrients from other food sources, where the main nutrition comes from, although milk is also an important part of their diet."
Wendy Tan Suat Hoon answered:
"This depends on the brand of formula milk. Some brands have formula milk that is suited for 3-6 years old. If you are referring to Mamil Gold Step 3, then it is for 1-3 years old. I believe the nutritional aspects of Mamil Gold Step 3 and Step 4 is different so as to suit to the growing needs of the children in that age band. So why not consider changing to Step 4? It i s cheaper as compare to Step 3 too."
