Breastfeeding is the best for babies and a healthy diet / maternal nutrition is important when breastfeeding. A decision not to breastfeed can be difficult to reverse. Infant formula is suitable from birth when babies are not breastfed. It is recommended that all formula milks be used on the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian, pharmacist, or other professional responsible for maternal and child care and the financial implications should be considered. All preparation and feeding instructions should be followed carefully as inappropriate preparation could lead to health hazards.

"Thanks for your question! Our Healthcare Expert will be answering some questions every week but in the meantime, here's a little tip from our Careline! Any test line that's visible on a pregnancy test - even a faint one - indicates a positive result. The faintest line in the results window too means the test has found pregnancy hormones in your urine. Pregnancy tests are designed to detect hCG in your urine because hCG is an early marker of pregnancy. How much hCG there'll be in your urine depends on how long you've been pregnant: the more days that have passed since the sperm has fertilised the egg, the higher your hCG levels will be – and the stronger the line on your pregnancy test. So, a very faint line nearly always means you're just a few days pregnant. A false positive result is very rare. It only happens if you've done the test wrong, have used a test that's past its expiry date, are 'reading' the result long after the wait time outlined on the packet or are taking certain medication. The simplest strategy is to simply wait another day or two. HCG levels in early pregnancy rise exponentially, and you will likely see a faint positive grow bolder in a matter of days. We wish you luck!"

"Urine pregnancy kits test the presence of pregnancy hormone ie. Human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG). If the test is done too early, your body might not have produced enough hormones to be detected in your urine. If in doubt, you can go to your doctor to have a blood test done."

"Dear Mum, we would suggest to you to do some blood tests for a more reliable result to confirm on your pregnancy. The most "accurate" pregnancy test is the quantitative blood pregnancy test, as the doctor determines the exact amount of pregnancy hormone, human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) levels in your blood. This will allow your doctor to make a very clear determination about whether or not you are pregnant or if a retest is required in a few more days. Home pregnancy test kits only provides you a qualitative result on the presence of hCG in urine. You may also continue to observe for any signs of pregnancy and do a retesting a few days later as the test might not be sensitive enough to detect your current hCG levels if it is in low levels and may give false negative results."

"Dear Arora Valley, Thank you for your kind reply. I am getting frustrated and worried. I used clearblue digital test kit yesterday and tested "pregnant 2-3". However I went to the polyclinic today for antenatal check and they retake a test and it came out negative. I am now worried about the result and unsure what is the status of me being pregnant. Can someone answer to my query please. Thank you."
